Natalie Martin
Director of Business Development and Membership Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute
What is your involvement in the CIM program? Why did you get involved with the program?
I currently serve as the President of the CIM Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Patrons Board and a new member of the CIM National Steering Committee. Being involved allows me to give back to a program that has supported me with education, experience and professional opportunities – ultimately helping me achieve my dream career.
Why did you and your company commit to the CIM program? What benefits do you expect for your company?
PCI supports CIM to improve recruitment of CIM graduates into the precast industry.
What are your thoughts about the industry/academic partnership between CIM and its industry partners and Patrons?
There is strong motivation and support for development from all sides—industry, Patrons, and academia. However, the academic sector tends to move at a slower pace than desired, which can hinder effective collaboration.
Why should other companies in the concrete industry get involved in the CIM program?
Industry partners should actively engage in shaping the CIM program to ensure it evolves with emerging technologies, AI advancements and social media trends that are driving the future of the field.
How can they get involved?
Industry companies can start by attending scheduled meetings, hosting social events, and actively participating in activities organized by each school’s CIM program.
What is your vision for the CIM program?
My vision for the program is to be future-focused, preparing students not only in quality control and sales, but also in areas like programming, machine mechanics, drone technology, and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinery.
How do you think the CIM program will benefit the concrete industry?
The CIM program equips the concrete industry with graduates who bring a strong foundation in technical knowledge, hands-on experience, and leadership skills. These individuals are prepared to make immediate contributions in areas such as project management, quality assurance, production, and sales—helping companies innovate and grow from day one.
