Concrete Industry Management (CIM) is a degree program that works to build a pool of exceptional, passionate leaders who possess the skills necessary to build the future of the concrete industry.

This specialized professional degree melds concrete technical expertise with essential business and leadership skills. Unlike traditional construction management or other certificate programs, CIM uniquely focuses on the concrete sector, providing the comprehensive blend of academic rigor and practical industry experience required to produce talented graduates capable of pursuing successful careers in the concrete industry and propelling the industry forward.

History

In 1995, leaders in the concrete industry recognized a gap between the reliable demand for concrete in today’s world and the number of qualified candidates capable of steering the industry into the future. The CIM program was developed in 1996 at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) to equip graduates with the essential skills, expertise, and hands-on experience to become leaders in the concrete industry.

The popularity of the program has taken off ever since, expanding to more universities and growing to include the CIM Executive MBA program. With more than 412+ students currently pursuing degrees in CIM and more than 1,640+ graduates, CIM is poised to continue propelling the industry forward, one leader at a time.

Commitment to Sustainability

CIM is committed to sustainability goals, knowing concrete has the power to influence a building’s footprint and that our students will be responsible for creating quality, environmentally friendly products and structures that impact the world for generations to come.

In 2021, America’s cement manufacturers came together to announce their intention to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 and laid out a roadmap of the plan to accomplish this. With cement’s significant role in society and structures, the responsibility of our industry is clear: we must act now to reduce greenhouse gasses and create sustainable building solutions. The roadmap describes how the U.S. cement and concrete industry can actively address climate change, decrease greenhouse gasses, and eliminate barriers that are restricting environmental progress by outlining opportunities across the various stages of building development. Collaboration is key in this effort, extending beyond our industry and enlisting the expertise of researchers, policymakers, academic institutions, and more. There is an opportunity to set a global example on uniting to build sustainably, utilize new approaches, and advocate for updated technology.

When you begin a career in the concrete industry, you’ll be part of this movement too. You’ll be actively impacting global change by being part of an evolving industry committed to sustainability, carbon reduction, and making the world a cleaner, greener place to live.
