Currently, I work as a field technician at StructureCare, part of the High companies. My responsibilities include conducting site walkthroughs, inspections and nondestructive testing, performing safety audits and assisting the engineering and project management teams.
Why did you choose this position and this company?
This position has offered me incredible opportunities for growth and learning. I chose StructureCare because of its strong reputation and the chance to be part of a company on the rise. Few organizations are as supportive of employee development and I feel fortunate to be part of a team that values growth and training.
Why did you choose the CIM program?
I chose the CIM program at NJIT because I was drawn to its direct and hands-on approach. This major is unique in how it connects students with program coordinators and industry Patrons. These interactions provided invaluable insights into the field and built professional relationships that continue to impact my career.
How has the CIM program prepared you for your current job responsibilities?
The CIM program provided me with a strong foundation in engineering principles, fieldwork and construction procedures—skills I now use daily. One of my courses focused specifically on ACI-approved testing methods for concrete, which directly prepared me for my current role performing nondestructive testing on cured concrete. This seamless integration of classroom learning with real-world applications has been instrumental in my success as a field technician.
The CIM program works with businesses to provide summer internships for CIM students. During your time at (school), were you able to take advantage of that program or any other special programs to develop your industry knowledge?
Looking back, I wish I had pursued internships more aggressively during my time in the program. While I did secure an internship with a reputable company, I realize now how valuable those experiences are for building industry knowledge and job market readiness.
What advice would you give to current CIM students?
My advice to current CIM students is simple: take internships seriously. Treat them as the cornerstone of your career and they will provide unique learning opportunities that make you stand out in the job market.
